The excellent clinical results, remarkable patient satisfaction and the economic advantages of GreenLight PVP™ are all possible due to the technologically innovative improvements of the wavelength and power characteristics of the GreenLight PV™ System.
The 532 nm wavelength results in a shallow, 800-micron depth tissue penetration. When this wavelength is combined with high laser power, the result is a very efficient vaporisation of the tissue. Because the GreenLight PV™ System does not heat up large volumes of tissue, it avoids gross necrosis of the tissue, oedema, delayed sloughing, and prolonged irritative symptoms - all characteristics of other laser systems and thermal therapies.
Another important characteristic of the GreenLight PV™ 532nm wavelength is that it is highly absorbed by oxyhemoglobin, and minimally absorbed in water. This makes the GreenLight PV™ System a uniquely suitable tool for non-contact soft tissue vaporisation in an aqueous environment. Vaporisation by the GreenLight PV™ System is rapid, its high power is not dissipated in water, and its photons are selectively absorbed by vascular tissue. As a result, the laser system allows photoselective vaporisation of the prostate (PVP).
